Video Book Review – Strategy For Sustainability

I recently picked up Adam Werbach's Strategy For Sustainability, and liked it enough to do a video book review.  I think the book is worth picking up if you are a sustainability professional, a business owner, or want to learn more about how to actually get sustainability stuff accomplished in your community. Definitely worth picking up.  Check out the review over on YouTube for more information on why!

The #BTV Rocks.

I love two things about Twitter.  Live search results, and the ability to connect with groups of people.  Twitter’s roots as a tool to stay in touch at the SXSW conference remain strong - and I still find that its the most useful way to use it.  I can search any topic or hashtag that I want, and see real time results on that topic.  I use twitter search to stay up to date on what’s happening in the world - whether it’s Sustainable Business, Egypt, the NBA trade deadline, or Social Entrepreneurs.  I stay current by setting up Tweetdeck (or other Twitter platforms) saved searches and checking throughout the day.  The #BTV hashtag for Burlington, Vermont is one of my favorite saved searches. Why?  Well, to start with, there is

Tips on Presenting at Pecha Kucha

Tips on Presenting at Pecha Kucha

I spent the last year researching how to design and deliver effective presentations, and used that learning to help me with my Pecha Kucha preparation.  I wanted to share it with you, as I think it can really be helpful.  I drew heavily upon Nancy Duarte, Garr Reynolds, Edward Tufte, and Richard Mayer - they are the leaders in the field of designing and delivering information.  I want to share my process in the hopes that future Pecha Kucha presenters can benefit from my experience.  I presented on February 10 in Burlington - and I was really pleased with how it went.  People came up and thanked me for sharing, and seemed to really enjoy the presentation.  I felt totally prepared. Visual Brainstorming Nancy Duarte and Garr Reynolds have some great tips for developing your presentation - This list is sort of a

Pecha Kucha and The Spiritual Side of Business

Pecha Kucha and The Spiritual Side of Business

I spoke at the Burlington VT Pecha Kucha Night, sharing my thoughts on the Spiritual Side of business, and wanted to share my thoughts on this presentation style. First of all, let me say that Pecha Kucha Nights are amazing, fun, interesting, and inspiring.  Find one near you, and attend it if you haven’t done so.  You won’t be disappointed.  They are gatherings of creative and passionate people.  It’s a great way to spend a night. Pecha Kucha (pronounced puh cha kuh cha) presentations are all 6 minutes and 40 seconds.  Each presenter has 20 slides, and each slide shows for 20 seconds before advancing automatically.  People present on a broad range of topics, but generally on something that they are passionate about or interested in.  Each night will have multiple speakers, and there is always going to be a broad range of topics. If you go, like what you see,

Renewal

Renewal

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! As it's the new year, it's another chance to think and talk about renewal.  Interestingly, my solar web hosting with aiso was also up for renewal today.  I renewed, as I like the work that they have done to help me, and I appreciate that my hosting servers are powered entirely by solar energy.  It is a bit more expensive than most hosting plans, but I think that it's worth it. In other renewal news, I am dedicating the day today to prepare for a presentation that I have coming up on the "spiritual side of business."  I am working out exactly what my primary point is going to be in the preso, and also designing and laying it out today.  I am using what I have learned from Garr Reynolds' Presentation Zen & The Naked Presenter, Nancy Duarte's
