I have been telling clients for the past year or so “Google Plus is going to be important for you in the future. It may not be quite ready for you yet, but you need to have it on your radar. At some point it will become necessary for you to set up shop over there.” And that point has probably come with the release of the Google “Search Plus Your World” stuff. Have you noticed that your Google search results have changed recently? If you have a google plus account, and you search for something, you are going to see things that Google finds to be relevant which were shared by the people in your “circles” at the top of the search results. That “top of the result” is the most valuable real estate in search-land, and it’s now inhabited with what people in your network have shared that might be relevant to you. If you want to be towards the top of these important results, you need to be mentioned and active (and using keywords that are relevant in your posts). I know that some of you are not going to be excited by this news, another network to nurture is probably at the bottom of your wish lists. But it’s also an incredible opportunity.
So how do you get yourself into the rarified air of the top of everyone’s search results? Through hard work and energy that you put into Google Plus. You need to first get started by creating a brand page, and then begin building strong connections, one at a time. It isn’t easy, but it is simple. It will take some energy and some effort, but I am sure you can be successful. The sooner you get started, the better off you will be in the long run. Don’t get caught flat-footed on this significant change. As always, let me know if you want expert help with this stuff.
